// Kacper Ziemianin a.k.a. ‘Ctrl Freq’ has a background in classical music and a lot of adventures in modern sound and music. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sonic Arts from Middlsex University, London and Master’s degree in Sonology at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, the Netherlands.

Sound designer, circuit bender, vagabond, improviser, producer, audio-hacker, instrument designer, nomad, radio presenter, workshop leader, squatter, soon-to-be a published writer. His audio works have been shown and played in many places around and outside of Europe.

Currently based in The Hague, NL working as a freelance instrument designer and performer as well as teacher of DIY electronics. His latest endeavor, the ‘LightSeq’ has received funding from Stimuleringsfonds NL and won an award at an international electronic music festival ‘Radical dB’ in Zaragoza, Spain.

// Passepartout Duo’s work investigates the way in which we listen and connect with sound. Exploring the unrealized potential of machines and non-univocal ways of relating to them, the group is continually developing a specialized and evolving ecosystem of handmade musical instruments that have ranged from analog electronic circuits and conventional percussion, to room-size textile installations and found objects. The interaction with these instruments and with each other through them is an important element also in the live performance.

Looking for alternative ways of sustaining an independent musical career and shaping an international network of artists and musicians, the group has been on a nearly continuous world tour ever since they began collaborating in 2015, and their experiences traveling have heavily influenced their unconventional creative process.

Acoustic vibrations, analog and digital sound synthesis, sound spatialization, folk instruments and techniques are all topics of interest that inform the electro-acoustic textures and complex rhythms of discographic releases such as Radio Yugawara (2024), Daylighting (2021), and Vis-à-Vis (2020). A particular research on language and music gestures instead is documented in the EP, Epigrams (2021) and the most recent LP, Argot (2025).

Their invention called the Chromaplane is an electromagnetic synthesizer that has been also launched as a product in collaboration with Berlin-based synthesizer manufacturer KOMA Elektronik in 2024, and was awarded the First Prize at the 2025 Guthman Musical Instrument Competition (US).
